The first stage of the competition for the National Teacher Prize initiated and organized by the Coalition "Education for All - Georgia" and the National Center for Teacher Professional Development has completed. www.tprize.ge -a specially designed website registered 745 interested applicants for the campaign. Of these, 114 teachers have submitted their applications.
Within the total number of candidates 104 are females and 10 - males. Among them 20 are teachers of science sciences -; foreign languages - 11; Information and Communication Technologies - 1; Sports - 2; Mathematics - 8; State languages - 23; Aesthetic education - 1; different areas - 29.
According to the territorial divisions, the highest number of applications - 37 is from Tbilisi. Imereti region takes the second place with the number of applicants - 17 applications.
At the next stage of the competition, the jury created for the National Teacher Prize will review the submitted applications and select the top ten and then conduct face to face interviews and five candidates will be shortlisted, one of which, on the 5th of October, on the Global Teacher Day, will be awarded first time in Georgia the National Teacher Prize and monetary prize 10 000 GEL from the General Sponsor - Inna Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili.
The "National Teacher Prize", is also supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Liberty Bank, Public Broadcasting and Imedi TV.
The "National Teacher Prize" was established in Georgia based on the Memorandum signed between the Coalition "Education for All - Georgia", the National Center for Teacher Professional Development and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia on 13 May 2017. This is the first initiative in Georgia and represents the part of the global campaign "The Global Teacher Prize" which is aimed at the promotion of the teacher’s profession.
The aim of the “National Teacher Prize” is to identify successful teachers, introduce them to public and in this way increase the prestige of the profession.
