Under the "Millennium Challenge Account - Georgia" Teacher and School Director Professional Development Project, carried out by LEPL National Center for Teacher Professional Development, teacher trainings has been launched according to the second module of general professional skills course.
The second module of general professional skills course - "Learner-oriented learning environment - learning and assessment strategies" will be held in February and will involve 9200 teachers from all over the country. The training will be held in schools located in more than 20 project partner cities.
The training modules have been developed by local and international consultants based on teachers' needs.
The training will engage VII-XII grader mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, geography and English language teachers, who were trained under the general professional skills first module course in 2016 October-November.
The training will help participants correctly identify and formulate learning objectives, effectively plan teaching process and apply a variety of improvement assessment tools and strategies.
Additionally, based on the knowledge obtained through the training, teachers will be able to modify their teaching according to students' gender, social differences and capabilities.
Under the project the training will be open to ethnic minority teachers. The training materials are currently being translated for them and Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani trainers will be trained to this end.
Within the project, in 2016-2018, teachers will be trained in two training courses:
- General professional skills ( three twelve-hour modules; total of 36 hours - 3 credit points)
- Active subject learning (one twenty-four hour module - 2 credit points)
The teachers will be trained in two stages. The first group of teacher professional development course began in October 2016 and will be completed in July 2017 (general professional and subject methodology course); The second group of teachers will take the same training course in October 2017 - July 2018.
The "Millennium Challenge Account - Georgia" project is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation and is carried out by LEPL National Center for Teacher Professional Development with the expert support of the International Consulting Company IREX and collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
