George Machabeli, the Director of National Center for Teacher Professional Development has become familiar with the ongoing training provided within the scope of "Teacher and School Director Professional Development Project" supported by Millennium Challenge Account- Georgia.
Currently, 7-12 grade exact and natural sciences, geography and English language practicing teachers are being trained. The project is being implemented by National Center for Teacher Professional Development.
The training of the project target group will be held in two divisions. In 2016-2017 academic year, 9000 teachers will embark on the long-term training course. The second division of the teachers will be trained in 2017-2018 academic year. Presently, 114 groups of teachers across the country are being trained and 116 groups completed training last week. During the first stage, teachers will be provided with the first module of in-service course in common professional skills - "Features of student-centered learning environment". The trainings will take place in schools at weekends. The first training module consists of 12 contact hours and to the possible extent, is full of practical activities.
The long term teacher professional development course in total consists of three modules of general professional skills and a subject methodology module. The course for each group of teachers lasts for 9 months and includes the components promoting the practical implementation of the knowledge and skills gained through the training course, including arrangement of teachers’ meetings at the regional level for the purpose of sharing experience.
The course is provided by certified trainers, who were retrained in the School of Trainers at National Center for Teacher Professional Development.
The project is implemented with the financial support of the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
