A conference on English language teachers’ professional development

A joint conference of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, British Council and the US Embassy to Georgia was held on the topic of Continuous Professional Development and Possibilities for English Language Teachers.

The Conference was opened by Zaza Purtseladze, Director of British Council Georgia. Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, representatives of the Ministry, British Ambassador to Georgia, the US Cultural Attaché, English language experts from Georgia as well as foreign countries, School directors and teachers attended the conference.

Deputy Minister Lia Gigauri introduced a new scheme for teachers’ professional development. Possibilities of continuous professional development for English language teachers and school principals were discussed at the meeting.

Acting teachers were offered to participate in various activities aimed at developing teachers’ practical skills.

Continuous professional development is based on the principle of teachers being eager to develop their skills. This is a process that helps a teacher and a school principal to face the challenges of the profession and benefit a school with high quality education.
