Millennium Challenge Account and UN
Women Organization, within the scope of the 16-day campaign dedicated to International
Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Gender Violence conducted
the training course "Gender-equitable learning process" for the
National Center for Teacher Professional Development teacher and school
director trainers.
The training aimed at strengthening the
work on the gender competences and deepening the trainers practice, so that they can more effectively
manage the competence development training with their target audience.
The training course has been taken by approximately
40 teacher and school director trainers in December. The trainees are involved
in the Millennium Challenge Account - Georgia "Teacher and School Director
Professional Development Project", to be implemented by the National
Center for Teacher Professional Development in 2016-2019.
The training course has become necessary
due to multiple researches carried out by a number of international and local
organizations which point out the existence of gender stereotypes established in
the learning environment especially pronounced in teaching natural and exact
sciences to girls.
There training discussed the issues
such as gender discrimination, bias, gender equity and misconception of gender equality,
gender differences and similarities, gender socialization and stereotyping.
The acquired knowledge will enable the
trainers to work hard to change the gender stereotypes at consciousness and
behavior levels.
As the training participants declared,
they have gained new skills and attitudes, learned how to carry out a gender-unbiased
impartial learning process and learned about the new training techniques that
they would use in their professional activities.
Millennium Challenge Account - Georgia
"Teacher and School Director Professional Development Project" is
being implemented by the LEPL National Center for Teacher Professional
Development Center with the financial support of the Millennium Challenge
Corporation and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sciences of
Georgia.
