National
Center for Teacher
Professional Development hosted a summary event of the project - "Teach and Learn with Georgia".
During the event, English, French and Chinese volunteer teachers were awarded with the program participation certificates. Also, the winner students of essay contests announced
within the program were granted
the certificates. Both the volunteer teachers and local foreign language teachers summarized the recent academic year and thanked the foreign colleagues for
fruitful cooperation.
Pursuant
to the initiative of the Ministry of Education and
Science of Georgia, groups of foreign volunteer teachers have visited Georgia annually under the program since 2010. Volunteers live with host
families and are employed in Georgian public schools, where in collaboration with local foreign language teachers and
community representatives are actively involved in school and community life. Working with the foreign colleagues help
local
foreign language teachers upgrade their qualifications also become familiar with and
implement the
modern language teaching methods.
It should be noted that since 2012
the program has expanded and Chinese language classes along with the English language ones have been provided (Chinese language component is
carried out under the framework of the memorandum signed between the Chinese Embassy, the Ministry of Education and Science
of Georgia and the National Center for Teacher Professional Development). Since
September 2015, through the pilot project, German-speaking and French-speaking volunteer teachers have had opportunity to participate
in the program. This was due to the fact that a large part of teachers of the given languages have no opportunities to have practical communication with native language-speaking counterparts, which is one of the most important factors in terms of language competence.
